The State Technical Library provides a number of services - traditionally you can look up an document in a catalogue, borrow it either for in-site study in the premises of the STL or for off-site lending, reserve is, etc. (see Lending Services). STL also offers the possibility to borrow books from other libraries in the Czech Republic as well as worldwide by means of interlibrary services. Users can of course also copy selected documents both in b&w and in colour (copy services). By means of the Virtual Polytechnic Library you can order copies sent by e-mail and most of services offered above.
The Reference Centre provides consulting, Search and advisory services from information sources available at the STL and on the internet. You can also gain internet access from the Computer Study Room.

The services of the library should improv with the construction of its new building in the university campus in Prague 6 - Dejvice. The project of the National Library of Technology (NTK) as the centre of information infrastructure of R&D, education and public information services in the Czech Republic, was launched by the State Technical Library in 2000. Its aim was to provide better access for the students and teaching staff of the technical universities and for the general professional public to information but also to solve the current problematic location of the State Technical Library in the building of the Klementinum, and help thus to solve the spatial limitations of the National Library.

The State Technical Library is the host of the Czech National ISSN Centre (ČNS ISSN), which assigns ISSN numbers and registers serial publications published on the territory of the Czech Republic. The ISSN (International Standard Serial Numbering) system registers on worldwide scale serial publications (newspapers, journals, editions of professional and scientific books, etc.), collects information necessary for their identification and bibliographic checking, and provides access to these files as well as other services.

Polythematic Structured Subject Heading System (PSH), a tool for the subject indexing of documents and for searching in library databases, is an original product of the STL. Bilingual version 1.4 (containing over 16,000 keywords in Czech and English) is available to public libraries free of charge, to commercial firms for a fee.

The barcode system is currently being used by several hundred Czech libraries. Identification codes of libraries can be used on User's Cards, for property identification and the like. The State Technical Library is responsible for system maintenance in the Czech Republic.
