The Department of Reference and Retrieval Services provides the following:

• Retrieval Services
  These services are either provided on the basis of written or e-mail requests, which are then invoiced, or they are provided on the basis of an oral agreement and are then paid for in the Abstracts and Trade Literature Study Room on submission of the results of the retrieval. A receipt is issued.
  
  
• Reference Services
  Consultation and advisory services are provided, primary and secondary collections and databases are made available to users with reference queries .

All the above databases are made available to the users of STL in the Abstracts and Trade Literature Study Room on the terms stated in the STL Library Rules, part V, chapter 3, Retrieval Services, or chapter 4, Databases on CD-ROM, i.e. basically charges are based upon the machine time and the amount of work carried out by staft when performing the search. Short reference questions are answered free of charge. The charging of prices for the performance of a search is governed by the STL Services Price List (Appendix 1 to the STL Library Regulations).
