Old prints deposited in the vaults of the State Technical Library bear witness to the enormous progress made by mankind during the last centuries, particularly the expansion of the natural sciences and all aspects of technology. Although on the occasion of the first anniversary of INVIK, we have intentionally selected those illustrations which may only bring amused smile to the faces of today's professionals, they are still proof of the high level of typography and book culture of a by-gone age.
