  3. Computer networks and Internet connectivity
    1. In general HW, SW
    2. * Digital AlphaServer 4100 5/400 4MB with OpenVMS V7.1 is used for library automation system, e-mail (POP-3, IMAP4), primary WWW, DNS, NFS, SMB (Samba), and RADIUS server.

      * 195 PC Pentium (at least P200) with Windows NT 4.0, of which 11 servers (NT domain, Ultra*Net, WinFrame and MetaFrame), and 184 workstations.

      * Public accessible Information center with 18 workplaces is equipped with IGEL terminals running ICA protocol to connect to MS Terminal Server and Citrix Metaframe.

      * Computer classroom equipped with 20 Windows NT 4.0 workstations.

      * 5 PC 486 Linux systems.

    3. New HW, SW; connectivity upgrades

      * MS SQL and IES servers (one of each) have been set up.

      * 5 Linux systems upgraded to RedHat V7.0.

      Computer networks and protocols
      * The ICA protocol was introduced because of migration to Windows terminals.

  8. Digital Library
  9. The digitization of 'Kopitar manuscripts' (old slavic codexes) is still going on. The project is co-funded by Open Society Institute/Network Library Program.

    The digital collection of portraits (photographs) of Slovenian authors is ready for publication on CD-ROM An Internet version will be available later this year.

    The project is co-funded by Open Society Institute/Network Library Program.

    Digitization of old newspapers (Ljubljanski zvon as pilot project) is planned for 2002.

    Web of Science as well as e-journal databases ( Swetscan, Ebsco, OCLC) are available.

  10. Databases mounted in-house
  11. * There are 75 databases mounted on our Ultra*Net CD server and there are 1021 users registered.

    * Ulta*Net V3.50.24 caching CD server enables access both with WWW browsers, and with standalone clients.

    * Metaframe Application Server enables access to the Ulta*Net server to Microsoft and non Microsoft platforms possibly over slow communication channels.

  12. Research and technology development projects
  13. Retrospective conversion of all old catalogs (except special collections) was finished in December 2000.

    NUK is participating is EC funded projects TEL and LEAF.
