Mission Statement
The Scientific Technical Library of Tomsk Polytechnic University works during two last
years in such important directions:
- The developing of the new automated system for the library cataloging and
circulation process. Our main partner is the Open Library System Center
of St. Petersburg State Technical University (the RUSLAN system).
- The adaptation of the local information resources in compatibility to
international standards.
- The participation in corporate union libraries of Tomsk region works on principles
of the distributed information system.
- The granting of the local bibliographic records via Z39.50 services.
- Library automation
Hardware & System Software
Servers:
HP NetServer LC3/UNIX(FreeBSD)/Internet service, Intel based PC server/NetWare
4.11/for file oriented applications, Intel based PC server/UNIX(FreeBSD)/maintains
diskless X-Windows workstations for public access.
Clients:
Diskless MS-DOS stations, diskless X Windows workstations under FreeBSD
and Windows 98/2000.
- Union Catalogue
- Software used
Based on Z39.50 fronted servers (Zebra, Indexdata ApS.) with a few modifications.
- New features
Web access to Z39.50 environment through Z39.50 gateway.
- Digital Library
We digitize the documents on demand in order to delivery documents via e-mail or printouts.
- Special web services
Web access to Z39.50 environment for information retrieval service for local and non-local Z39.50 servers.
- Research and technology development projects
The distributed corporate information system based on Z39.50 client/servers
applications for Information Retrieval tasks: Z39.50 fronted server
with support EXPLAIN task, Web/Z39.50 gateway based on Perl language
extentions, Z39.50 proxy service, stand alone generic GUI client for
experimental tasks.
