Fiberoptic network with individual
10MHz lines to the client. Connection to the WWW
is a 256K line. The network is TCP/IP based. There are 6
main switches, fiber optic interconnected with a 100MHz copper
line to each server and a 10MHz line to each client, all
upgradable to 100 Mhz. There are 260 in-house clients

Library automation
In
general HW/SW
Our library management system is a
Vubis system, written in MUMPS. It is open software: we have the
source code. The database is a "Caché"-system
(InterSystems). The system is highly patched with "home-made"
soft.
Current data for the bibliographic database: -
Monographs and series: 1.200.000 records (5.2 Gigabyte) -
Periodicals: 50.000 records (2.4 Gigabyte) - External MARC
files: 3.100.000 records (2.7 Gigabyte)
New HW, SW, other
Speed-up of more than 100% of the
SUN-javastations was achieved by installing Linux on the client
side, according to R.S. Dubinsky
(http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/JavaStation-HOWTO/).
Until now about 50% of the javastations is converted to Linux.
