What is INVIK
Through INVIK (the abbreviation stands for "INtegrovana VIrtualni
Knihovna" or "Integrated Virtual Library" in English)
the STL is responding to appeals to extend the scope and
manner of its services in order that it may respond better to the information needs of its users,
which are being stimulated by a new developments in communication and integration
processes of the present Internet-based environment .
Through INVIK the STL steps into the virtual world of Internet. INVIK is not
only concerned with the presentation of our library, its services,
catalogues and holdings on the Web, but, primarily with the actual impact
of these services. Thanks to the technical possibilities of WWW medium,
quality, speed and comfort of service provision can be substantially improved,
and in certain cases, an actual visit to the library can be avoided.
The WWW pages bring STL to your work desk (or more precisely, to your
virtual deteskop) via the Internet.
The procedures which are performed and/or controlled by our colleagues and
which actually take place in departments of our library, are presented in
a virtual and interactive manner.
The INVIK project is not only a series of WWW pages concerned with
the delivery of information and services, it is also the process of
continuously searching for and developing a relevant,
complete, fast and comfortable, and generally: high-quality library
service.
The INVIK pages are being continually updated. We apologize
for any errors and shortcomings. Your questions and comments on the
INVIK homepage and project are welcome at invik@stk.cz.
