Dear Guido Badalamenti
ICAU secretary
Subject:
ICAU list of developments
Connectivity between ALEPH 300 and ALEPH 500
Following is the summary of our recent discussion at Ex Libris Seminar in
Tel Aviv.
The ICAU complete list of developments requests will be ready by April-May
1999.
At your request, we eliminate from the list of developments the request:
98_1013 - Boolean search in the WWW server.
As agreed, OPAC connectivity between ALEPH 300 and ALEPH 500 versions, will
be provided through ALEPH WWW servers. Ex Libris will provide WWW licenses,
free of charge to ALEPH 300 users which are working in an environment of
500 and have placed the order for an upgrade to ALEPH
500.*)
Ex Libris will develop and deliver, as requested , the DUPLICATE functionality between the ALEPH 300 and ALEPH 500. The functionality is described below.
(REF: ## 98_1001)
Duplicate a document from ALEPH 300 to ALEPH 500:
The ALEPH 500 User:
The ALEPH 500 user will search in the ALEPH 300 remote host via the ALEPH
300 WWW server. When the user finds a document that should be duplicated to
its local ALEPH 500 system , he will press a new button "GET" and the
document from the ALEPH 300 will be copied to the user's PC creating a file.
During the file creation, it can be converted to US-MARC format according a
user's choice conversion table.
The local ALEPH 500 user will then upload this file into the PC Cataloging
Client, and will continue in a normal cataloging process.
Duplicate a document from 500 to 300:
The ALEPH 300 User:
The ALEPH 300 user will search in the ALEPH 500 remote host via the ALEPH
500 WWW server. When the user finds a document that should be duplicated to
its local ALEPH 300, he will write down it's number. Through the ALEPH 300
cataloging module, the User will activate the current ALEPH 300 DUP(licate)
function for the specific document number, indicating the remote ALEPH 500
library name.
Best Regards,
Aharon Rivlin
Head, ALEPH 300 group
Ex Libris Ltd.
