Aleph Configuration:

  • ALEPH version: 3.2_5 (spring 1996)
  • Modules: All
  • License: 36 users
  • Operating System: SCO UNIX System V/386
  • Server: RC1900, 4 GB HD, 64 MB RAM
  • Net: IBDN with SNA on terminals & PC’s. 2 branch libraries connected to the main library. We have an ISDN-connection with TCP/IP to the City Hall as well as a modem-connection to the local high school.

New Configuration: See "Major Developments planned".

Workstations: 49 terminals VT100, 13 PC’s mainly with terminal emulation.

Apart from the Aleph-installation we have 6 Pentium PC’s for public use of CD-Rom plus a gateway to the Internet. These are administered by a NT-server. The 2 branch libraries each have 1 Pentium PC for public use of CD-ROM.

Major Developments since last ICAU-meeting:

A project in collaboration with a school library situated in a rural-district. A modem-connection to our server gives inhabitants in the area a possibility to use ALEPH.

In collaboration with the municipality an Internet Café was started in 96. Not in library building, but with library personel as main staff.

In Jan. 97 we started our own Internet connection via the City Hall’s Gateway.

Major Developments planned:

New Server: By the end of September 97 we will have a new server & a new version:

The new server should solve the above mentioned problem with the update of local fields.

  • Version: 3.2_6
  • Operat. System: Solaris
  • Server: SUN Enterprise 2
  • Disk space: 10,5 GB, 2 X 167 MHz CPU

A connection to the Communal aerial at the same time opens access to search in the library catalog via WWW. The Network will be divided in 3, established through LAN’s to the FIREWALL of the City Hall.

The open access through WWW, means that Koege Library also is planning a Homepage in 1997.

Establishment of a new Database containing the bibliographical records of the local high school / gymnasium.

An overall updating of our hardware by replacing our many terminals with PC’s.

Thus preparing for ALEPH 500 and a general access to the Internet.

Open Problems:

Major Problems: Koege Public Library had an updating incr. installed in Nov. 96. Unfortunately this had the effect, that we no longer can perform a weekly run in our Holdings management; an update of local fields. Thus preventing our weekly report to DBC. Although the previous increment was reinstalled, the above mentioned problem was not solved, being a SCO UNIX problem amongst other.

Placing a Parallel Request on a summary request has the effect, that all the patrons requests are deleted, when the Parallel Request is answered. (It should only be the Parallel Request on summary copies, not any other request.)
