Major Developments since last ICAU-meeting:
In cooperation with ExLibris the records in
MAKS format (CDS/ISIS) were converted into ALEPH
database in April 1997. Database called NML
inludes more than 21 000 monograph records back
to the year 1990 (some of them are linked to
holding information). The MeSH database has been
updated and improved. Our OPAC is available both
in Czech and English using telnet clients or WWW
browsers.
The WWW access: http://www.nlk.anet.cz/ALEPH
This year in May CDS/ISIS cataloguing has been
stopped and ALEPH cataloguing has become fully
operational.
The user file has been set up (about 3000
entries) and a special programme for statistics
of our readers has been debugged.
The possibility of downloading the records
produced by National Library Prague was
successfully tested. Prior to data entry in NML
the NKC database is consulted.
The retrospective cataloguing has been
started. For the Czech literature the reliable
source is the database of National Library,
Prague.
Major Developments planned:
Until March 1998 we are planning to test fully
the circulation module and to put it in operation
at small scale in April 1998. Some analytical
work has been already undertaken for the
implementation of the union catalogue of serials
for health libraries.
Open Problems:
We have encountered some problems in OPAC
searching. Some users get trapped and their
processes must be killed by system administrator
both for telnet and www sessions.
