Major Developments since last ICAU-meeting:
Implementation of 325.14 version
Retrospective conversion:
- online catalog has been enriched with cca
40.000 of records prepared using original
RETROCON technology based on scanning,
OCR and tagging and with 70.000 of
records that have been retyped from
cataloging cards
- a project has been prepared for
retrospective conversion of
living" part of our
collections
- retrospective conversion of foreign
periodicals in Czech libraries went to
deeper past (1965 instead of 1991)
Databases in Aleph:
- NKC (>270.000 rec.) - Czech national
bibliography from 1983, foreign books
from 1995, other types of documents from
1996, more than 100.000 resulted from
retrospective conversion - presented
through the Aleph WWW server
- ISN - books that have been announced to
the National ISBN Agency - presented on
the Web
- SLK (cca 5.000 rec.) - online catalog of
the Slavonic Library which is an
administrative part of the NL - Web
presentation is under preparation
- NAK (cca 3.500 rec.) - Czech publishers
participating on ISBN system - the
database is being built under CDS/ISIS
and presented in Aleph (also on the Web)
- CLA has been implemented but not with the
whole CLA functionality - it grows rather
slowly as the main priority is to clean
authority files of NKC database
(http://www.nkp.cz:4001/ALEPH)
- KZP (cca 35. 000 rec.) - foreign
periodicals in Czech libraries from 1965
- presented on the Web
- SKK (cca 120.000 rec.) - books (from
1995) and conference proceedings (from
1990) in Czech libraries, records
resulted from retrospective conversion in
the NL - presented on the Web
- ADR (cca 2.500 rec.) - addresses of Czech
libraries - the database is being built
under CDS/ISIS and presented in Aleph
(also on the Web)
Major Developments planned:
- automated circulation in the Slavonic
Library (September 1997)
- conversion of serials records from
national exchange format into UNIMARC and
conversion of appropriate records from
ISSN Compact and running Serials module,
development of technology for linking
scanned images from the General Serials
Catalog to bibliographic records (October
1997)
- creating holdings records in NKC database
from information added to bibliographic
records automaticaly (January 1998)
- building of the database for analytical
records (esp. journal articles) - it is
the question of money whether records
will be created in UNIMARC in this
database or in the national exchange
format under CDS/ISIS and converted on
regulary basis into UNIMARC and Aleph
- conversion of records for graphics, sound
recordings and musical scores from
national exchange format and CDS/ISIS
into UNIMARC and Aleph
- processing of rare books according to the
rules of CERL (Consortium of European
Research Libraries)
- completing of large scale duplication
checks in NKC database
Open Problems:
- problems with batch routines locking the
library due to WWW access
- low level of unification and
standardisation of ways for entering
commands in text mode of Aleph
- registration of documents for exchange,
evidence of documents in exchange stock
- integration of own procedures (e.g. for
filing, validation checks) - support from
Ex Libris will be discussed
- support of the national language (Czech)
in the graphic enviroment (WWW and GUI
OPAC)
