Aleph Configuration:
- Aleph (UNIX version 326.03) with
license for 50 users (15 OPAC users,
15 WWW users, 20 staff users)
- Operational system AIX 4.1.4
- Dedicate IBM RISC/6000 model 570 with
128Mbyte of central memory, 5.3Gbyte disk
storage and 240Mbyte for paging space
- 20 IBM 3151 terminals (05 for OPAC)
- 37 Personal computer (12 preferable for
OPAC) and 10 printers
- LAN is linked to the host using
Token-Ring technology with TPC/IP
protocol
- Host is linked to the University network
(1,200 stations: PC, RISC and SUN) using
FDDI technology
- Host is linked to the INTERNET using
microwave tecnology (10Mbits/s)

Major Developments planned:
The experience of installing Aleph 325
(patches 8 and 13), which was uncompatible with
operational system AIX 4.1.4, delayed our Aleph
developments plan. Now, AIX 4.2.1 will be
installed and we hope to be able to implement the
funcionalities as schedulled.

Implement Aleph WWW interface (in portuguese
only) and use it on the PCs reserved for readers
at the Library

Install a new dedicate IBM RISC/6000 model
F50 with 512Mbyte of memory and 06 storage disks
of 4.5Gbyte each (05 disks hot swap)

Open Problems:
•Uncompatibility between Aleph 326.03
version and AIX 4.1.4 •The Aleph WWW
interface and OPAC GUI do not work with denied
bases properly •IUTIL 5-16 (Heavily used
items) does not search in history file •UTIL
70 (Retrieve Records/Fields) should allow
combination of different files and search for
empty fields
