CSIC Libraries Network consists in a multi ALEPH installation in 4 nodes (Barcelona, Madrid, Sevilla and Valencia). More than 90 libraries building a union catalog, named CIRBIC (Catalogos Informatizados de la Red de Bibliotecas del CSIC). This catalog holds two local bases, one for monographs 506.000 titles; and one for serials 40.000 titles aproximately.
Major developments since last ICAU meeting:
- In January 1996 CSIC had changed hardware and software. We've moved from VMS to OSF1, from VAX to ALPHA, in all our 4 installations (600.000 record conversion)
- Change from version 3.2-4 to 3.2-5. All conversion works were made in place with help from Aleph-Yissum on the net.
- Translation and adaptation works for the new version.
- Implementation of SERIALS and ACQUISITIONS modules.
- Implementation of the web interface for the OPAC.
- Study, configuration and installation of the GUI client.
Major developments planned:
- Implement SDI, USR and ILL module during 1997.
- Start works with images linked to bibliographic records.
- Study the possibilities of ALEPH as a z39.50 server
Open problems:
- Have real OPAC functions in the WWW interface.
- Have the possibility of displaying holding notes (HN) for serials as in the traditional OPAC.
- Have the same LINK performance in the WWW as in the traditional ALEPH.
- WWW_SERVER processes are quite unstable. Something must be done about it.
