Major developments since the last ICAU meeting:

The major development since last meeting was the thrive of Roskilde Council to move Roskilde into the socalled information society.

The means to do this was:

1. Establishing a connection (128 KB) to the internet, implementing a firewall and dividing the local network in 3 parts: a public network, a private network and a network with open acces servers (the ALEPH server and a WWW-server).

2. Establishing an Internet workshop at the library with 18 PC's and 2 Mac's, where the public free of charge can use and get training in wordprossessing, spreadsheet, internet searching, scanning of pictures and text and so on. The workshop is manned with 5 students to help and assist the users.

3. Installing another ca. 22 PC's in the public areas of the library, where anyone can search the library catalog via WWW or use the internet.

4. Establishing a WWW-server, with homepages for Roskilde Community ( http://www.roskildekom.dk), Roskilde Library ( http://www.roskildebib.dk) and a common homepage for the Roskilde Region ( http://www.roskilde-info.dk).

5. Create a database, accessible from the internet, containing all known information about the cultural life in Roskilde.

The plans for next year:

Replacing all of the terminals with PC's.

Changing from Uniplex to Microsoft Office.

If the price is right: Change from ALEPH 3.2 versions to ALEPH 500.
