Workshop on ILL
Tuesday, September 19, 10.00-12.00
Moderator:
Else Marie Poulsen, Aalborg University Library, Denmark
Background of participants:
Some small knowledge of the functionality of the module.
Purpose:
The purpose of the workshop is to exchange experiences and to prepare
a memorandum to ExLibris. The memorandum will contain a joint
recommendation concerning immediate functional improvements that should
be made to ILL.
Introduction:
There is no doubt that the main request concerning the ILL is total
integration.
Until now, the system developers have shown little interest in
complying with this request.
Of course we now assume that massive user-pressure will change
this attitude (the request received the 8th largest number of votes
in the voting procedure, though only a few of us have actually
implemented the module).
However, there is no doubt that this will take time.
Therefore, this workshop should concentrate on drawing up less
comprehensive requests that can be fullfilled in the near future.
In that way, it will be easier to operate the module while we are
awaiting total integration.
Future trends in the development of ILL:
The ILL-systems we know from Aleph and other library systems are merely
electronic versions of the paperwork of the old days.
If there is time remaining after the first item I propose that we
discuss the future development of ILL and the coming demands on
ILL-systems, such as:
- The steadily increasing use of the Internet, external databases,
full-text databases, etc., which will eventually end in demands on the
systems' flexibility in respect to co-operation with other systems.
- To what extent will we allow users themselves to load their
requests into the ILL-system, for example through some sort of
"get me"-command if their search resulted in 0-hit?.
You can (at least I hope - MSv) send
