Developments since last ICAU meeting:
In December 1994 we started to test version 32_4. After checking
that all major problems from version 32_3 were solved and after
implementing Polish version of screens, forms, helps, etc. we
decided to switch from version 32_3 to 32_4. In January 1995 our
data base was converted. The conversion caused some problems,
mainly because the instruction wasn't prepared carefully enough.
From that time we implemented CLA data base for thesaurus which
is the Polish translation of EUROVOC. The conversion program for
taking data from ISIS data base to Aleph CLA data base was
prepared and the access file in global library was created on
this base. Thesaurus is used for subject description in
cataloging process. A new library was prepared for cataloging
articles from journals. Up to now the information about articles
was accessible in the Reference Division in traditional form of
cataloging cards.
We implemented the aquisition module in our library and we
adopted it for our needs. Orders and invoices for the 6 months
of 1995 were retrospectively input to Aleph.
We are also doing some works that are based on Aleph records but
this information is treaded as input data for external programs.
That is the case of printing the inventory book, and preparing
data in Ventura Publisher format for our printing house for some
sort of publications concerning new acquisitions. Special forms
serving as administration works documentation were prepared.
Our catalog already includes 10758 records. We find version 32_4
better prepared and faster than version 32_3.
Planned developments:
- Implementing of Circulation module.
- Preparing the second access file for another thesaurus.
- Creating a new library for audio and video records
description.
- "Opening" our library for Internet users.
Open problems:
Procedure of conversion from version to version must be
discussed. Performance problems must be solved. (Changing the
programming language and/or technique may be the answer.)
