Since last ICAU meeting
Version 3.2_4 was installed in Feb 1995 without any serious
problems (except that both COBOL and SUN OS had to be upgraded).
With 3.2_4 a lot of problems of 3.2_3 were solved and several
serious bugs eliminated.
Planned developments
- Acquisision planned for end of 1995
- ILL planned for end of 1995
- WWW planned for start of 1996, but first we'll have to solve
security problems, as our installation is directly connected to
the local municipal network and servers.
- Self-Service (circulation) planned for end of 1995.
- Version 3.2_5 planned for end of 1995.
Open Problems
- More attention to the requests created by libraries with
school libraries attached.
- Attention to the fact that it will still take a while until
we have changed our oldfashioned terminals to more potent pc's
in a modern client/server environment, ie to solve speed problems
only via client/server solutions is just not good enough for us.
- Establishing the ICAU Request Databases is a great
improvement, and I'm sure it will be a helpfull tool. A good job
have been done by DTV. Still ICAU should be aware that the
request databases will mainly be for the larger member (and for
the members!) What about non members, but still ALEPH users or
users who just dont have resources to dedicate for work with the
request database?. Will ICAU accept reduced membership fee
or/and shared membership? Theese are vital question that should
be given an answer.
