VMS -> Unix Migration
Conclusions - Recomendations
- Before moving ALEPH to Unix make sure that you have a
significant amount of Unix experience.
Be careful
about migrating ALEPH versions which have "specials"
to help ALEPH to convert them (or at least provide estimate of how
much it will cost).
- Make sure that you have a Unix expert available to perform
system manager functions.
- Make sure that you try to separate the responsibilities between
Unix system management and ALEPH system management (mixing these up
causes a lot of confusion and will make problem solving difficult).
- Staff training for using Unix should not be underestimated
(e.g. most users find vi difficult compared to VMS text editors).
