    Mission Statement
    The Computer Technology Center (CTC) is a division of Ural State University. CTC provides technical support and future development for the University's Science Library, which is a leading memeber of the Corporative Project "Consensus Omnium – corporative network of Ural libraries" focused on strengthening informational interaction between libraries of Ural region on the basis perspective informational technologies and standards: Oracle8i as a database server; object-oriented approach to data structure; using XML for library applications; using Z39.50 protocol for access to other electronic catalogues and digital collections.

  3. Computer networks and Internet connectivity
  4. Ural State University's network infrastructure connects all 12 departments, research and administrative divisions of the university distributed among three campuses. The network is a hierarchical structure with high-speed (100 Mb) backbone covering all USU's campuses. Backbone is consists from several fiber optic segments and realizes FastEthernet Channel technology using switches Catalyst 5505, 2926, 2916, and 2828.
    Conputer Technology Center provides all standard types of services for both an internal USU's network and for all participants of Ekaterinburg University Network (EUNnet).

    2. UNIX servers are used: Sun Enterprise 3000 - as a WEB server, IBM RS/6000 as main and backup mail relays, SUN Netra 150 as USENET server, SUN Ultra 2200 - uniform proxy server, SUN Ultra 2200 - data base (Oracle) server, Sun Enterprise 450 - audio streaming server.
      Workstations: PC compatible computers and SUN workstations.

    4. Solaris8, AIX 4.2 on servers.
      MARC in University's Science Library and Oracle8.1.6 in Computer Technology Center are used for supporting of the electronic catalogues.

    4. Using Oracle8i InterMedia Text to perform searches on XML documents and electronic catalogue stored in Oracle8i.
      More activites in a development of own digital collections.

  6. Digital Library
    1. Based on your own production of digital documents
    2. There are two branches of our activities in a development of own digital collections: full-text image-based information objects based on DjVu technology and full-text text-based objects based on XML/XSLT texhnology. Dublin Core is used for generation of the metadata information objects.

    3. Based on external sources
    4. A number of full-text databases and electronic catalogues on CD (The Frankfurt CD-ROM , Deutche Fachpresse, CD-Biblio 96/97, Springer Complete Catalogue 1842/1994 and so on).

  7. Electronic document delivery services
  8. Processing Center of EDD is a division of Ural State University Science Library. Software "D2" of Russian company "KODIS" is used for supporting of Processing Center's activities.

  9. Other important projects
  10. Computer Technology Center participates in a number of the large international projects in Distance Learning, project "Sonoteka" sponsored by Open Society Institute (development of Russian universities digital audio resources).
