Library of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University: From disaster to renaissance

During the 2002 floods, the mathematical part of the Library of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the Charles University in Prague has been largely destroyed, with losses reaching up to 56 million Czech crowns. The talk will concentrate on our experience with the rescue work immediately after the flood and on the subsequent effects of factors that could not be reliably assessed during this work. It will also touch upon the results of the drying of books temporarily preserved at the Mochov cooling plant and, finally, upon the outlooks of the library reconstruction vis a vis possible future floods.
